i would suggest one other thing to you. Unless you run a huge company that can afford a big SEO budget.. try looking for more rare keywords. ones that do not have much competition so you could easily go to the top for them... keywords that are used only a thousand times a day( or a little more, depending on the money you want to spend ) cause this thousand times a nearly 90% visitors if you go to 1 place in the results for such a rare key-phrase.. of course, try be as targeted as possible...

Keyword research is important and i would agree with the above posts to look for more rare and therefore less competitive keywords, try the Google keyword research tool https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal. Another idea is to try popular miss spelt words (i.e instead of accommodation try accomodation)

Another thing i do is build a link campaign to improve my search engine position and the best way to start this is to see what websites your competitors link to and try and link to them, use a tool such as http://www.checkyourlinkpopularity.com/ to do this easily.

^ Yes. Basically, it's the site analysis - comprises of target market, niche, KW look-up, etc.
