I have been looking at ways to get a better page ranking at my website and I have been thinking about using the likes of Facebook, Twitter etc, do these have any major effect on page ranking or would it be a waste of time

Well, it is a way to know people and see if they have a site relevant to yours and you could exchange links with that person.

Its depends on what you want, trafiic or customers?

Twitter and face book are good ways to bring trafiic to your site.
But this will only be traffic.

But if you want customers, The better way is to write some good quality articles related to your business and submit it on various article directories like funduarticles.
You can achieve good one way links to your site using this meachanism. Rest all depends on your company home page.

Make sure you read all directory specific guidelines before submitting your articles.

Social networking sites like face book and twitter are gives to your site more traffic because of the links give you on that social networking sites. Don't think this way are wasting our time.
