Anchor text is the clickable text contained before the </a> tag. It a bad use of the word becuase it can be confused with Anchor links!
Code: [ Select ]
<a href="/">Anchore text here</a>

You may also use ALT text for image links but its not called Anchor text.

Code: [ Select ]
<a href="/"><img src="/home.gif" alt="alt text here like home"></a>

That is a good question rodrigo.

I think there are differences. If you imagine that you were a search engine engineer trying to lessen the influences of SEO, you might realize that many advertising links are single links, off by themselves, often separated with "|"'s, just like on the bottom of this page, and that links embedded within content are less likely to be attempts to manipulate rankings. So you can easily see that a sophisticated engine could classify floating links differently than in-content links. Just something to consider...

Indeed for the SE's but as ever there are ways around this with clever CSS/JS!

interesting approach Thermit, but...
isn't the use of "|" geting outdated?
For me it appears to be something with less importance that it had before.
Anyway i can't remember any other trick to catch pub links... :(

Use of "|" may be "old", but there's nothing really about it to get outdated. In the same way that commas don't get outdated.

rodrigo - I have seen a few topics from you now discussing anchor text. Can i make a suggestion?

Do some research on Google beforehand so you know what it is you actually want to ask....
