What is your definition of a valid code in terms of search engines?

Valid mark up has currently no effect on Search Engine Optimisation. Google and MSN sites do not validate!

However valid mark up helps your website to become compatible with adaptive technologies (Accessibility) and future browser technologies such as Web TV and mobile devices. If you code in HTML 4.01 or HTML 4.0 aim for strict. If you code in XHTML 1.0, aim for Transitional (dont use 1.1 cosit dont really work and "1.0 Strict" can still be very tricky)

Unfortunately not all my sites do validate because I do a lot of browser hacks and stuff the <body> tag full of code but then I allow myself to do that because I do allot of cross platform and adaptive technology testing to make sure it works.

watch your log files on your webserver to see what browser types are viewing your site. and download those browsers test the site out. a properly formated site means increased sales.

MAC is the only operating system browsers are the only ones that give me trouble.... :(
