Visits and Views?

Hi guys - firstly I do apologise if this is in the incorrect section. Im sure a mod will move it if this is the case.

I have a simple question.

Within my admin console of my site I have a statistics area which allows me to view various stats on files, bandwidths etc. Im a little confused as to what the difference is between page "visits" and "views".

I have approximately 1600 page views but only 500 visits?

Does this mean that 500 people viewed my site and looked at roughly 3 pages each?

Could someone please explain this to me?

Yes, you are right. 500 people visited your site and they seen together 1600 pages. Or some of them returned in a 24 hours timeframe.

The visits and views are both important. The more pages a surfer see, the more interesting you can assume your site is.
