What do you believe are the best ways to market a company on the
internet. ?

I think it is Google Adwords.

Yes, Google is a good thing, but like I said in a post a few min ago on another board, try a pop-up ad company. Or you can do it the legit way and use Google Adwords.

Google is good, but there is Yahoo and a number of other PPC search engines. Google and Yahoo are typically more expensive but have a greater reach.

Also try moving your rankings up naturally by adding content and exchanging links. A link is a vote of confidence for you site so if you get lots of links to your site you will rank higher in the SERP. Also try word of mouth, this is very slow seeming but it is a viral campaighn. try telling your friends about your site, they in turn will tell others and so on and so forth.

Currently Viral marketing is running on the net for Search Engine Marketing Technique. You can Use for the marketing of your site or business.

And also you can use Google Adwords and Yahoo Overture technique which is also called Pay per click campaign.

But current trend is VIRAL MARKETING so you try it.

SEO Optimaization is good way but it always make constant changes and for staying on top of SEO you must do hardwork otherwise Google Adwords for e-mail marketing is best. And also it depends upon the nature of your buisness and how you want to carry on your marketing caimpaigns..

My first prefernce will be ofcourse google and second one will be the Viral marketing that is current trend.

Search engine marketing and search engine optimization should be done specially for Google yahoo MSN.

SEO is great google is hard to work with unless you know your niche well.Viral is fine if you want your SEO to go down the drain.Facebook and the likes got me tons of impressions but null conversions.I've seen no traffic from squidoo ect. Probally the best has been the traffic campaigns from http://www.kingoftraffic.net ,soon to have contextual , behavioral , and keyword targeted.
