Hello!

I am trying to remember (but i can't) what's the code we can put in any search engine, let's say ALTAVISTA to get a list of all the sites which are linking to my website.

I think it is something like: link:yourdomain.com -url:yourdomain.com.

But i typed that in the search box and it didn't work

Any help?

Kindest Regards

Various search engines do have various ways of doing it.

On most SEs link:yourdomain.com will turn up links to your site.
That will work on Yahoo, MSN & Altavista.

But, using the minus sign (as in -site:example.com) isn't accepted by all. It works on some & not on others.

However, on Yahoo, after you search using link:example.com, you can choose "except from this domain" on the results page & that will filter out results from the site in question, just showing external links. I just love that feature, really makes it easy to see where the links are coming from.

Pages about link operators for the various SEs:

http://www.altavista.com/help/search/syntax
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/tips/tips-03.html

Guess that didn't answer all of your question but I hope it helped.

best,
Denise

Altavista is a search engine. Their parent company is Yahoo.

Or, you could have just gone to the site to see. :-)

best,
Denise
