Write a quality article from the start. Otherwise there's not much you can do to a blog.

A blog is like an online diary. Nobody really wants to read your diary, but if the content is good enough they'll be tempted to.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Keep things extremely basic, stay away from advanced topics. Advanced topic readers have generally been around awhile, and people who have been around awhile generally already have their "regular blogs" and other reading. You want to be attracting newbies until you've been around long enough for your newbies to have advanced.

Strip your template down to basic semantic elements such as <h1-6>, <p>, etc, arrange them about how you want them, then start wrapping things in style. Less noise in the form of markup in a template goes a long way as far as search engines are concerned.

Any time you're about to advertise the blog think about whether if you were the owner of where you're trying to advertise, would you delete what you're about to do ? If the answer is yes, or it takes a few seconds for you to say no, chances are the real owner is going to delete it. You want stuff that's relevant, and that will be around more than a year at least.

However, optimizing a blog is a bit different than your standard website search engine optimization (SEO), particularly because most blogs run off standard blog platforms, or worse, run as a hosted blog on someone else’s domain name. And there are design issues that can be unique to blogs which can impact your rankings.

Make your blog user for your visitors post quality over quantity and do that consistently, The more frequently you post, the more likely the bots will visit your blog more on regular basis.

If you are using wordpress the first 2 things you want to do are change your permalinks so they show the post title and make sure your turn off the privacy settings so your pages will get indexed.

Writing concise quality articles is the main focus, but building a logical and deep category structure can really help as well.
