For those of you who submit to paid directories, what do you look for?

Example: Price, SEO Friendliness (static pages), traffic, etc....

I consider paying if it is an established website with good SEO and traffic. If you get what you want, then it’s worth every penny.

First thing I look at is the Directory's PR. Secondly, I look at whether it uses simple HTML > Straight Folder Linking to it's all pages or whether it uses some complicated PHP Algorithm. Finally, I check if the sites present in the directory are having an effect in Google!

Most important thing is that the directory not use redirects. If you hover your cursor over a link and get something other than http://www.yoursite.com than Google won't count that as a backlink for you. If Google ignores the directory, then you should too.

I would never pay for inclusion in a directory.

For me they have to be search engine friendly first. Directories hardly give any traffic, so thier main purpose is to provide a backlink. So unless they are SEO it's not even worth your time submitting to them.

Secondly they have to be free.

And prefrably they shouldnt require a backlink.
Reciprocol links aren't worth much. But as i run a directory i just submit thier link to my directpry and post that url as the page that has the backlink.

also, while we are on the subject of directories, Dmoz is a pile of poop now. It's run by nazis.
So if you have a site that competes with the editors site don't expect to get included this side of 2015.

I am not a Nazi...and I always put competitors sites within my category. There are bad editors out there, but most of them are not.

We're not saying that all editors do this, but there are deffinitely a handful out there that do.

P.S. - Any chance you're an editor in the web directories section :P :D

I would say look at the the site Page rank, what type of links it gives (script generated or html) and the popularity.

yes ...

PR , COST and Traffic and how old is the directory .... whats the benefit our site will gain on the page where our site will get listed.

At Last if the cost is OK for that listing than would surely go for it.
