Adsense revenue depends on your traffic. The more traffic, the higher probability of people clicking on your ads.

The best way I have found to get a good conversion with adsense is to personalise the look, feel and location of the ad placements so as they dont look like typical adsense ads.

As far as cheap traffic goes, I use 3-4 cent clicks in the content network and make sure I use negative keywords like -free -mp3 etc to lessen the likelyhood of click abuse.

Remember if they are clicking on someone elses ads it is likely they will click on yours. Be sur to have some good CPA ads on your pages also.

We make a lot of money with Adsense, enough to pay two good salaries. But lately the eCPM has dropped waaay down and I'm not sure why. It's considerably lower than it was at this time last year. The traffic is the same, the amount of clicks is the same (give or take a few of course).
