Directory submitter are not reliable.

In the past I have used an automated piece of software called hermusa for article submission... Here is an article http://www.thekaizenbusiness.com/?p=106 that covers how you can find some directories in your market for link exchanges.

It is best not to pay for any links, as search engines are starting to discount these sites.

The way to find lots of sites with good backlinks is if you type in http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/.

Look at one of your competitors, and in the search bar on this page, type in there address, and this will tell you how many links they have linking to there site. You can do this for all websites and you can pick up quite a few good links upon request.

Indeed.......its really a better option and you find more results as yahoo shows more links for any sites in compare to other search engines.....
