I was doing a search today for "used cars" At the top of the results there was a sponsored listing (like Overture results in Yahoo) that appears to be paid for. I can't seem to find this for any similar searches.

Has anyone else seen these? How do you purchase them?

Yeah I'm already using Adwords. I wondering how you get them to appear at the top of the page (basically 1st listing) as opposed to the side where they normally are. I have to imagine people are more likely to click on them if they look like the number one ranking. Much like Overture does.

Well, you can't pay for listing position with Google (although some would probably dispute that).

You get to the #1 spot in a Google search through good SEO and a lot of backlinks (depending on your competing sites).

Go to one of the searches I listed before. Example search for used cars in Google. On the left hand side of the screen just below the Google logo there are two ads that look like Adwords. The difference is that they're not on the right side of the screen. They are directly above the organic results. This only shows up on certain searches. What the hell are these? How do I get one?

With this one you need to just pay higner than other advertizers for key word.
