Hey guys, Im keen to invest around $500 towards paid directory listings such as JoeAnt and Goguide, but would like to ask which would be the best or perhaps the most viable sites to list with?

My site over the last week or so has dropped in PR from 3 to 2, however this could be due to the Google Dance which I believe is still underway. My site caters for online garage sales and is currently page 8 for basic keyword searches such as "garage sales". Id like to get the site to at least page 2-3 if possible.

I understand this is a patience thing and for those who are about to ask, how long has the site been up...well its been online for a period of around 2 years now.

Also, Im thinking of perhaps putting up a "Garage Sale Blog" or "Garage Sale Feedback" section so that members may return and submit comments or suggestions as to what went wrong on the day or what worked for them, and how basically to best hold a successful garage sale. Would this be considered spamming? Ive heard recently that google is frowning upon blogging...is this true?

Some directory sites are my main concern however at this point. I dont want to waste $500 listing my site on sites that will not help me acheive my goal.

Thanks guys,
RJ

I've never heard of JoeAnt and Goguide. And I've been around the net for some time. Why would you want to invest $500 into sites people have never heard of?

Well, would you have any suggestion on who to list with?

Sorry, ramone_johnny no suggestions. I've never listed with anyone for the most part. I went that route early on, but only went for the free listings. The major search engines always have found me for free, and those are the only ones I care about.

I would never pay to get listed in directories just to increase my online presence. It might be different if I had a product to sell and needed to advertise, but if that were the case I still wouldn't spend a dime paying for a directory listing. Instead I'd be paying for advertising space an a related content site.

It depends on whether you wanted some high PR backlinks or you want traffic.

If you want traffic then i would suggest you adword (google)or overture (Yahoo).

If you want backlinks, then try http://www.linkmarket.net http://www.linkexchanged.com or if you are interested in buying some links then search PR6 links or PR7 links or PR8 links in ebay.

I have given some solution, choice is yours.
Did you submit in dmoz.org??

JoeAnt and Goguide have been around a long time. I haven't checked up on them lately but in the past I got my sites listed there for free by simply volunteering to help edit a few categories there.

If you want to spend some money to be listed in some directories then Yahoo should probably be the big one. Quite expensive but if you got the cash then why not? JoeAnt and GoGuides have been around awhile and may be worth a submission. You may want to check out MSN's bCentral as well.

Cool, thanks guys.

I think I might invest it in yahoo, but will definitely take a look at MSN's bCentral.

Thanks again,

Hi,

I advice you to invest in BL to a directory or forum which is relevant with your business, for example I have a site for offshore software development India and I prefer to purchase a text link for that word in http://www.offshore.development.co.uk
this will help me in my keyword ranking, I always spend my time and efforts for keyword rankings and I use to follow only ethical way, so I never got PR dip and my PR's use to increase steadily.
Though I am not concern about PR, my clients and management concern about PR (only for that issue I use to see that green bar other wise there is nothing to do with that to an ethical web master.)

this site did not work. Page cannot found. Do not spend money and time on a non working url.

overture is good, tyr getting max bids from here inventory.overture.com and play a smart game by bidding for 5th position. Provided your add shud be catchy.

Don't be so harsh. JoeAnt has been around for years and is well known.

You might want to checkout.

As it ranks directories by user and PR. Joining these will be of great value to you in the long run.
