Well, what kind of camera are you looking for? Something to just take some shots or are you looking to get into photography/want a camera that has full customization?

I swear by the Canon cameras. I only say that because i've not tried many others. In saying this, the SLR (Single Lens Reflex, basically meaning you can change lens) that seems popular with new SLR users tends to be the Canon EOS 350d. The 350d is poupular for new SLR users mainly due to it's ease of use.

Now, (i believe) like everyone else here reading this thread i am assuming you are talking about a Digital Camera and not a Film camera?

Are you buying it or are you hoping to have it as a gift to you? i ask because there really isn't much point flying around camera names etc until there is a rough monetary figure in which you are thinking of spending here. How much were you thinking?

Well, i'll repeat the EOS 350 suggestion.

I got mine for that about a year and a half ago now, so i imagine i'ts alot cheaper especially with there being a newer version out (400d).

They also came out with the 450 so it's probably going to drop more.

I have a Fuji finepix S9500 which i recommend. Its a good easy camera and you also get some excellent features.

Im sure you can probably get one on ebay or some other sales site now for about £200

Canon XTi (400D) should be in your price range. They dropped down alot due to the XSi (450D) hitting the market. I love my XTi, but I do read alot of good things about Nikons too. Best bet is to look at both and read lots of reviews. Megapixel.net is a good resource for camera comparisons.

I find Nikon more prevalent in photojournalism crowds; starter kits can be thrown together with proprietary parts cheaper.

Personally I'd go with everybody else here and recommend the Canon 400D - put any other money leftover onto the 50mm f/1.8 lens. Street price should be roughly 40-60 pounds.

I just got the Canon 400d for about £320 inc the £45 cashback canon is doing atm.

Its a great camera but I still yet to learn the full potential of it as its my first DSLR.

I don't think you got yourself a bad deal. Where did you get it from paul_|81?
