I'm in the market for a digital camera. I want to get at least a 3MB camera with 3x digital zoom. I'm not looking for great quality. Just something to post photos of my garden to the web.

What I don't understand is what the memory to shot ratio is. In other words, how much memory would you suggest?

Thanks.

Well the memory to shot ratio depends on the mega pixels and the quality of the images you take. Also it depends on how many images you want to store on the card without taking them off.

Do you mind if I ask what the budget is for the camera?

My first Digital Camera was the HP Photosmart R607 and i think for simplicity of use and memory to shot ratio you can't go wrong. A photograph taken on one of these cameras would take up no more than 2mb in space.

I assume when you say "3MB" you actually mean 3MP (megapixel). The R607 has 4.1mp which is better than your requirements.

When buying a Digital Camera you also need to look at getting a memory card. You could easily get a 1GB card for quite a good price nowadays. In most point-and-click digital cameras you would be looking at getting a SD Card (Secure Digital Card), if all you want to do is no more than 100 photographs at any time then you probably could go for a 128mb card. If you chose to go, for example, the Photosmart R607 then the camera does tell you how many photographs you have left before the card is full.

(by the way, the R607 uses SD cards)

For more information on the types of Memory Cards and what they all mean, check out this link.

I hope this helped.

You can get sd cards quite cheap now. I would recommend at least 64mb - 256mb

Yes, that's correct. I meant 3MP, not 3MB.
