My wife just bought the 10mp XTI and it's great. It has really got us into photography...now I want one. I would rather not buy the same camera, but something that is a good competitor to it.

I would like to spend between $500 and $700 if possible. Same range we got the XTI for.

Any recommendations?

Hope Im not too late, one thing you might want to consider is if you get cameras so different from each other like that (Canon and Nikon) your lens will not work with eachothers cameras. So if you spend a thounsand on a new lens only one of the cameras is going to be able to use it.
