Personally, I think you should be showing more of what's going on. Visual composition isn't only about aesthetics, it's also about story telling. If the thread wasn't titled as it is, I might not have figured out the guitar part.

If we're going to look over his shoulder like this, I'd like to see what he's concentrating on.

The fash is quite harsh. There might be some settings on your camera to adjust the flash.

Otherwise, I shoot a lot of musicians myself and I prefer to show a series of shots, rather than just one image.

:scratchead: Come to think of it, I always prefer a series to a single image.

r_t, it's a good one, your idea is a guitar man. But it doesn't show much of it. When I saw it, it's almost certainly a bearded man, concentrating...something...

Other than some white balance adjustment the picture is technically sound. Great DOF, good placement...

I wouldn't have known what he was doing had you not explicitly pointed it out though. I like to shoot passion. That picture shows none of it.

I would definitely have not figured out the part about the guitar if the Title of this post hadn't stated it. Even knowing the guitar is there, I can't even make it out, and I play guitar.

Cool ... thanks ATNO ... I appreciate that ... I guess I didn't look at the photo from a 3rd person point-of-view, but that's good because now I will be more aware of that, and not make the same 'mistake' again. So because I took the photo and know what I took the photo of, I didn't think of other viewers and what they'd see ... Thank so much for all your input people!

If that image was in a set like dM mentioned with other pictures clearly depicting the story it would fit in great - as a standalone it's really just a poster for DOF.
