At Last I have ordered my new camera ... it's a Canon 350D ... This is my first "proper" camera ... it's just for taking fun photos ... nothing serious ... I'm getting it tomorrow ... What do you think?

yeah, the first few weeks are going to be very 'experimental' as I am going to be taking photos of everything and seeing what the different settings do ...

My advice is to put it into its 'manual' mode straight away to really learn what it can do. What kind of lens are you getting? Is this your first SLR?

yes, congrats! And please, please stay away from full Auto mode. It won't do you any good in learning how to properly use a camera as dM points out.

I am getting it with a standard 18-55 lens (those nicer lenses are a bit expensive right now) ... and yes, it's my first SLR ... my friend has a similar one, and I played around with it one evening, and that's what inspired me to get one of my own ... Now I just can't wait ... 25 hours until I get it ... WooT!

Will do ... I just don't see the point in buying such a nice camera and then just throwing it into auto mode hoping for something good to happen ... I want to fully learn to understand this camera and take advantage of every feature that it has ... it's almost like buying some fancy car that has all the features but you don't use any of them ... I'd rather buy a cheaper car in that case ... same with the camera ...

WooT! ... I got my camera last night, I ill post some pictures soon ... Just a quick question though ... when you take photos, do you use manual focus or auto focus? because I saw that when I use auto focus, I can still set the focus point by choosing one of 7 locations when looking through my viewfinder ...

I'd recommend using the manual focus when you can. Autofocus i find isn't always as accurate.

i use whichever is relevant to the subject. sometimes it's just way too difficult to get the auto to catch what I want. You'll develop a feel for what works for you.

You do know it's tradition to post your first pic you took with the new camera? no matter how bad or what it is... ;)

Been taking a lot of pictures? Reason I ask is your photos name is over 4000! (If only 9000....).

Hope you have fun with your new camera!

lol ... no, for some reason it starts at 4000 and then when it reaches 4100 it creates a new folder for the next 100 photos ...

So, while the camera is new to you it isn't new to any owner. You are probably the second owner?

Yes I am ... the girl I bought it from is getting a new camera so she sold that one at an awesome price ... and it's still in perfect condition, it still looks like it just came out of the box ...

Yeah, i've got a 350d too and when i bought it it appeared in the box all wrapped up and looked brand new. The camera had done about 3000 photos before i got a hold of it.

Probably my most memorable and favoured purchase on Ebay.
