is there any effect on picture quality if anybody use larger external memory card for mobile camera

There should not be any difference in picture quality. The only difference is in number of images you can store at a given resolution.

One thing to be aware of is that some older cameras may not be able to write to the entire card though if you buy one that is larger than 2gb.

Agreed with Ishii. There shouldn't be any reason the quality would be affected by a larger card.

Also, some card readers aren't capable of reading some high capacity cards.

I just got a couple of 4GB flash cards for my Nikon D40, but my Stratitec card reader simply refuses to read from the cards, yet works fine with 2GB cards...brand name cards, too.

I was not aware of this. If you're using a d40 you're using SD cards right? My camera uses compactflash so I have little experience with SD. I have no problems with my 4GB CF cards on a Sandisk reader.
