These are extremely basic. I know they're from a CNET RSS feed, but I would guess most people photographing an actual pet portrait would know these!
Then again, people never cease to amaze me :D

When I come across these, I think of people who aren't necessarily photographers, but rather for people that want to improve the photographs they do take. And let's face it. Everyone takes pictures of their pets.

Consider George L for example, who has really already improved his photos by reading and listening to the tips and advice of those more experienced.

True - but the experience is from critiquing, not reading a walkthrough.

Example of why some people need basic instructions. That's the reddest red eye I've ever seen.

What I want to know is what the bacon strip is doing there.

Well it's not my cat or pic, but my best friend showed it to me and it's not his pic either, but he's a BBQ wizard and his comment to me was before putting it on the grill slap some bacon around it.

//by the looks of it it's one of those "you suck at Photoshop" kinda pics.

That picture has to be cropped - the red-eye shouldn't be that severe if the subject is lower than the flash and lens. Then again, cats do have those ultra reflective lenses :P

Oh my, that's very cool ... I need to find a black background like that somewhere and put things in there, and a white one too ...

Here you go...

I just loved the colour in the eyes. I think when i first saw this i asked if this had been edited at all after the photo was taken and if i recall correctly the photographer said "no", so this makes it all the more impressive.
