People, especially live musicians. I love doing low-light with no flash - 50mm. Always full manual. I open the aperture as wide as she'll go (f/1.8 on that lens) and turn down the shutter speed as slow as possible for me to hold still and then compose shots as fast as I can.

What about you?

Seriously though, my immediate guess for applications would be wild life photography, spying/paparazzi type of stuff, sporting events, etc.

Methinks primarily sporting stuff. I've seen lenses that big many times at baseball and football games. Honestly a quick look at that background appears to be a horse track. Not to mention the Kentucky Derby coming up. Wouldn't it be great to snag that award winning snapshot of the "wins by a head" finish?

Damn that's a nice lens! lol

IMO, you're better off with your current arsenal. I've tried shooting entertainment with a 100-400 4.5 IS and I wasn't too impressed with the capabilities. The weight of the larger lenses is a definite drag.

Of course you're right. However, if I had a different lens, I would find new shooting experiences. ;)

lol, yeah I didn't think about that - I forgot the rule, new glass begets new subjects, not vice versa. :)

So THAT'S what blew the papers off my desk! You didn't get it?!? Pssht you're sooo ...err...wait...I didn't either. :) Maybe ATNO is playing with his new high-powered laser? Better wear my shades when I go out so I don't burn a retina.

If you know where the birds are going to be then of course you'll get some :P

If your fishing in the sky for a little birdie with that lens (an extremely narrow angle of view (2°-1°30), good luck.

Breeze, your wording goes so unintentionally well with where I think ATNO's going with that...heh

The only red light in the window I know of has to do with prostitution. That is a photo subject the I've never worked with.

Seeing that this is photography, though, it might have something to do with a dark-room light. In that case, my enlarger, trays, beakers, and chems have been packed away in a closet for around 5 years now. :|

Ha! Oh the list is long, my friend. It's sufficient to say, I've done my time with the old world technology. Enough to appreciate it, thoroughly. Enough to appreciate why Photoshop has the tools it has and what those tools do. :)

I do get nostalgic, occassionally.
