best place to start for learning dynamic webpages

my first goal is going to be to set up a calender for a bands show dates.... i use shieldhost to host my site, and it has a MySql admin panel on there, i was able to make a database and a table, but thats as far as i could get....
not sure if i need to strart reading about MySql, PHP, JSP, API?!?!?!?!?
