I am submitting an email to a listserv (petidomo) from a web page form. I want to send this mail to list-request@host.com - an address that is valid in the /etc/aliases, but because the "user" does not exist in the password file, my email fails with "unkown user"

I hesitate to monkey around with the passwd file. Is there anything else I can do to make this work?

Thanks,

Note that /etc/aliases is only the raw data file - the actual aliasing information is placed into a binary format in the file /etc/aliases.db using the newaliases utility.

You should never have to mess with /etc/passwd for mail resolution.
