I'm trying to connect to a database that contains several file paths to images. I want to create a form in Access that will display the image paths in a listbox on the left side and then a clickable thumbnail view that will expand the image on the right side. how do i make the listbox connect to the database to show the images?

I would suggest using the Northwinds database as a crude example. If you look at the Employees table, you'll notice a column for photos with embeded bitmaps images. You can see how these images are then displayed in the Employees form.

For your list box, create a query/s for the images column/s and use the queries as the control source for your listbox.

I would recommend embeded images vs file paths, because if a user is using the application on a machine that is remote to the database machine, Access is going to look for that path on the users machine, and since that path won't exist, you won't get the pictures to display.

With the images embeded in the database, you won't have that problem.
