Post 3+ Months Ago

Hi

I am trying a create a dynamic news section on my web site.

I would link the home page to display the four newest news items and then a link to a news archive on a seperate page.

The news archive will have links ordered by YEAR then MONTH, similar to the following page:

http://www.adampolselli.com/archives.php

Could you suggest what ASP scripting to use?

Please help me?

Cheers

Grant

I do apologise, I dont want a XML feed.
The news will be about myself and my latest web design jobs so I will be writing the content myself.

I just need the code so I can display the news archive in months and years...

For example,

March 2004 (3 entries)
Feb 2004 (16 enteries)
Jan 2004 (3 enteries)
Dec 2003 (10 entries)

etc etc....

Please let me know if you can provide anymore assistance.

Much appreciated

How are your archives setup ?

I'm guessing you have a folder for each year, within each years folder is a folder for each month.

Inside each months folder, do you just add a new html file for each new story ?, do you compile each months stories into one file once a month?,
Are you placing a default page to pull stories with SQL? How are you adding new content ?

All the News Articles are stored in a access database.

Here are the fields,

NewsID

NewsDate - (auto inserts the date the record was added to the database)

NewsHeadline
NewsStory
NewsLink

The 4 newest News Stories will appear on the home page.
The rest will appear in an archive.

I dont want to mess around with folders containing different months, years etc. I just want to use 1 ASP template page and pull the news articles from the database, which isnt the problem.

The problem is providing a record set navigation, such as:

March 2004 (3 entries)
Feb 2004 (16 enteries)
Jan 2004 (3 entries)
Dec 2003 (10 entries)

Depending on when the article was wrote, the scripting will autmotically sort the articles by YEAR and then MONTH

Currently, the news is managed manually and the archive can be found here:

I hope this explains things a bit better

Appreciate the help mate

I don't know much about SQL, I listed it to get anyone watching this thread thinking.

can you do somthing like,
Code: [ Select ]
SELECT Sum(NewsDate) AS Total FROM NewsDate
WHERE Instr("2/" , "/2003")
............................
<body>
February 2003 (<%= Total %> Articles)
</body>
  1. SELECT Sum(NewsDate) AS Total FROM NewsDate
  2. WHERE Instr("2/" , "/2003")
  3. ............................
  4. <body>
  5. February 2003 (<%= Total %> Articles)
  6. </body>

Sorry I can't be of more (if any) Help.
