Maybe you guys could help me solve a problem....

I have a web directory that includes .txt, .doc, .html, and .xls pages. I would like to put a search function on the index page that would search references on all the pages in the directory. Much like a 'search this site' function.

How is this done? Do I have to index all the pages?

Thanks,
ED

have a look at http://www.atomz.com

There is a free version of their search tool which you can use on any site. All the processing is done by their servers so there is no scripting involved.

It's an easy way for you to try this out without wasting a lot of time.
