i am currently working on a website for my school for the web design classes so they can set thier crap up on a server... my teacher wants it in ASP, dont ask me why, so dont suggest that i use ASP instead please...

anyways, i keep getting this error when i try to access the page, i have remade the database, changed the permissions, and just generally screwed around with the code, also i have messed arround ODBC settings on the server, its still not working...

heres the error:
Code: [ Select ]
Error Type:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
  1. Error Type:
  2. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
  3. [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.

as far as i can tell, the database is not open anywhere...

any ideas?

You don't perchance still have an instance of Access open do you? One that you were using the database in some fashion? I've found that in some cases if I don't close Access completely, even though I've closed the project it still, in some cases retains the connection to the database. *shrug -- just a thought to check.

lol, i wish it was that simple, but the first, well almost first thing i did, was reboot the only two computers it had been open on: the server, and the workstation... 8-(

I found this tonight. I kept thinking about this and felt like it had to go back to permissions somehow. I needed my secretary to have access to an Access database for an application I wrote for her, and kept getting the same error you do. I finally just made her a member of the Admin group on the server and just denied her access to everything else except the database.

But I think I found the answer tonight. Check here:
