I uploaded PHPBB to my website, and I have no knowledge of PHP or databases.
I downloaded a database program (MSQL) but I have no idea how to use it, how do I get it ready to connect to my forum? Do I have to run the program and do anything? I'm assuming the database has to have some way to connect to the internet, so do I upload it via FTP like everything else on my website?

Your server on the web should already have the database ready... and you don't have to worry about that with PHP.

On default PHPBB forum setup, all you have to do is upload your PHPBB files to your server, and then go to that directory and you should start installing it.

What you would need to put into it is the database username, host and the password of the SQL database that your server has... after that, PHPBB setup sets the database and inserts the correct database and tables into it. Anyone without any knowledge in PHP/SQL should be able to work PHPBB on it's default settings.

@bgraybr

if u received a phpbb zip file. make sure you extract it before uploading, otherwise you will have linux permission problem on the script (if u upload the zip file and then extract on the server).

Also make sure you created the database from cpanel.

I'm pretty sure that PHPBB makes the database by itself.

No, you need to create the database yourself.

No, I just installed it. All you have to do is type in some info and it will create it itself.

It says that I need to delete the installation directory before the forum will work, what specific file should I delete? I don't want to delete anything important and have to install it again.

In the root folder of your PHPBB installation you will see a folder called 'install' either delete it or rename it.

So you gave phpBB root access to your MySQL process to create databases with whatever privileges it wants?

Keep in mind that creating tables in a database is not the same as creating a database itself.
