One of the most popular compilers you can have for any Linux based system for C and C++ is the GNU compiler, which is known as GCC. It also supports other languages as well.

"GCC, the GNU Compiler Collection, is a suite of libraries and compilers for a number of computer programming languages."

"GCC is the GNU Compiler Collection, which currently contains front ends for C, C++, Objective-C, Fortran, Java, and Ada, as well as libraries for these languages (libstdc++, libgcj,...)."

As of April 25, 2003 the latest release of GCC is GCC 3.2.3 which you can find located here:

http://www.gnu.org/software/gcc/gcc-3.2/

The purpose of the GCC 3.2 release series is to provide a stable platform for OS distributors to use building their next releases. A primary objective was to stabilize the C++ ABI; we believe that the interface to the compiler and the C++ standard library are now relatively stable.

There are numerous mirrors which you can use to download it here:

aww, I wasn't mocking! I was umm...supporting you! ;)

If you're doing good work and are an expert in a field, I was just
supporting your position, whether i know what it is or not. The
assumption is that you know what you're talking about.

9/10 you do - specially when it has to do with programming.
