Hello all, i am trying to install the free guestbook script and im having a bit of trouble and on the guide it says to come here and try and get some help :)

Im trying to upload the script to aol, i have made a directory called gb but it will not let me upload ".htaaccess" i think that it is because of the name?

Can i just rename it or will that muck up to script?

Help would be much appriciated.

Thanks

Tone

which free guestbook script are you using?

.htaccess is a file that changes some server settings on apache (for a particular folder only), and I can understand AOL not allowing it. Most good hosts should allow it.

Paid hosting is so cheap nowadays: http://yrhost.com/ (you'll also need http://godaddy.com/ ), just get that.

now i'm rambling.

Wow that does seem really good, so i purchase the hosting then all i got to do is buy a domain name? and transfer the name to the host and i should be up and running.

Can i divert all my visitors to the new site? and is it possible to have more then one domain name on my host?

Thanks

if you get the $50/year yrhost plan you can host more than one domain. If you get the $12 or $25 , you can only host one name.

I find it usually takes about 36-48 hours to have a hosting and domain set up if I'm using .com or .net or .org , or 12-24 hours if i'm using .biz or .info.

As for the redirect, put a tag like this one in your header:
<meta HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="1; URL=http://www.something.com/">

and whenever someone visits your old site, they will automatically be forwarded to your new one. It might be a good idea to put a message saying that your site has moved on your old site, as well as the tag above (don't forget to mention the new address) because not all browsers are compatible with this form of redirect.
