I'm writing a program that checks an external site to see if a particular college course is open or closed.

this is the gui:

it posts to a perl script that checks the course numbers against this external site, and then responds accordingly (by texting the user) by printing (in HTML) whether its open or closed.

The problem is, i want to keep this refreshing so that it keeps checking if the courses are open every 20 minutes or so, but i don't know how to do that. Keep in mind i want to refresh the HTML output too. My friend is trying ajax, but i have no idea how to do ajax (although i can learn). He's stumped as well.

If you have a completely different approach, please let me know!!

I would recommand Ajax also.
on the client side, Ajax provides a better user experience vs refreshing. While on the sever side, Ajax reduces the number of http requests though that might be a minor for small sites.

Ajax is as easy as 1 2 3 ....
