Help with "coded" template

I have a PHP template that are "coded". It have many strange signs like:

I want to edit the template, but I don't know how I can do that when the PHP files look like that :? .
Anyone know what I can do?

Start with the basics - you're sure that's a PHP file? Is it up anywhere that we can view in its entirety? You could have some other type of file that's not plain-text, or you could have some severely obfuscated code.
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.

Yes i'm sure it's a PHP file. It uses "zend" to run.
I cannot post the link here, since it's a client's site and his site is a adult site (don't think I can post a link to adult site here)

I have included in the quote the beginning of the index.php file.

Here's what you're looking at - Zend Guard. Given that, I'm afraid I'm not willing to help you decrypt the files. They've obviously used the tool for a reason, so perhaps they don't intend for you to use them.

Well the template and script is free to use, so changing the layout should not be breaking any rules.
If it's possible to decrypt the files, so we could do some changes to the template layout - it would be nice.

Why don't you contact them and ask them the question? I can't help you basically because I don't know how myself, but I could suggest as to what you could do to find the answer you seek.
