Hi all,

I have NO idea how to configure my osCommerce shopping cart. I've checked the 54 matches in the search engine but none relate to this problem. I am only very new to shopping carts and I've looked through the osCommerce website but don't understand their instructions cos in one part it said I was meant to receive an install a shopping cart window but I don't get that.
Someone please help me, Ive uploaded the files and all I get is this:

http://www.parentsretreat.com/osCommerce/

What is my next step???

from the looks of things you haven't uploaded all the files. However, its a long time since I set up oscommerce so that may not be it.

Read the INSTALL file. It tells you to go to a certain URL after you have unzipped everything. I went there and was told that "register_globals" needed to be enabled. Call your host and ask them to enable it but I doubt they weill because it is a security risk. Very strange.

Oh damn, I thought I may have some missed some files so I uploaded again but I still got the same thing!!
My host lives in the USA and I live in Australia so thats a problem. I hate it when I can't figure things out for myself! It stresses me and yet afterwards its something so simple!! arghhhh

Miss_bee did you read the install instructions in the INSTALL file?

http://www.parentsretreat.com/osCommerce/INSTALL

According to the install instructions you have to go to this address:
http://www.parentsretreat.com/osCommerc ... g/install/

But that gives you an error saying that register globals is disabled.

What I suggest you do is email your host and ask them to enable it, but, as I said before, I don't think they will because it can be a security risk.

Where did you download oscomerce from? If I remember correctly oscommerce does not require register globals to be enabled for you to install it. So something strange is happening.

I downloaded it from the osCommerce website itself. I feel so dumb right now.

very, very strange. If you want, I will install it for you. PM me your ftp login details and the domain and the username, password, and database name of the mysql database you want to connect to.

Wait a sec, here's a thought. Is this cpanel hosting? If so, you should be able to install oscmmerce through cpanel. If for some reason it isn't working, that might be your best option.

Ok I finally got the front end installed but now I'm getting these following errors, any idea what they mean??

The configuration files do not exist, or permission levels are not set.

Please perform the following actions:
cd /home2/bee/public_html/osCommerce/catalog/includes/
touch configure.php
chmod 706 configure.php
cd /home2/bee/public_html/osCommerce/catalog/admin/includes/
touch configure.php
chmod 706 configure.php
