Installing Php-Nuke

Post January 23rd, 2004, 7:36 pm

I am wondering how i can install php-nuke onto my site. I downloaded it from http://www.phpnuke.org and it came as PHP-Nuke-6.9.tar . How do i extract it? is there another way i can download Php-Nuke so i can install it on my site? I know that I will have the right databases needed for Php-Nuke becuse its my friend and he said that he would get me what i need. After i unzip it(when i figure out how) how would i upload it?

I noticed that you downloaded it as "PHP-Nuke-6.9.tar". It should be PHP-Nuke-6.9.tar.gz I think. Go back to the downloads page and if your download starts automatically cancel it and then right-click the download link and choose "save as" it should save as "PHP-Nuke-6.9.tar.gz" and then you should be able to open it with winzip. I've never installed it, but there should be a file with installation instructions inside.

To be honest, I'd go with PostNuke over PHP-Nuke. PostNuke was forked off the PHP-Nuke code several years ago, and has come along much more than PHP-Nuke has during that time.

I use PostNuke, and it's much easier to modify/add-stuff-to than PHP-Nuke.

The two topics have been merged since they are identical.

The phrase RTFM ring any bells?

Both PostNuke & PHP-Nuke come with pretty decent installation instructions. :)

It's not that hard.

1) Upload files
2) chmod 666 the config files
3) run install.php and follow the very clear & simple on-screen instructions.
4) chmod 644 the config files
5) delete install.php and install directories

done

how is that hard? :)
