Jquery - Hover event add span to hyperlink

Hey all, i have a problem with some navigation, i recently migrated a design to Drupal, and came across the fact i couldn't edit the main navigation html, which sucked, the help i got was to use jquery to fix this, here ill show you what im trying to achieve:
http://oaklore.co.uk/ When you hover the main navigation it pops out.

http://oaklore.co.uk/drupal/ I need to add the <span> attribute when hovering over each of the links, and removing it when hover out.

How would i do this?

You'll need to either add the child node via the DOM or rebuild the innerHTML onMouseOver and Out.
I'd love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code.
