Maybe it's just me, but lately I've seen more and more references to the F# language surfacing. I hadn't thought much of it, but today I decided to give it a better look. F# appears to be MS's newest hopeful for the .Net family. Has anyone else seen/heard of this?

Quote:
F# developed as a research programming language to provide the much sought-after combination of type safety, succinctness, performance, expresivity and scripting, with all the advantages of running on a high-quality, well-supported modern runtime system. This combination has been so successful that the language is now being transitioned towards a fully supported language on the .NET platform.

You can read a bit more about the language here or hop on over to the MS Developer Center and have a look around.

Anyone find a hello world written in this ?

All I'm seeing is a bunch of manuals and horn tooting. :scratchhead:

Good point, perhaps a few examples are appropriate here.

PingPong Messaging Example (demoing the f# Actors mechanism)

As for Hello World...
Code: [ Select ]

#light
open System
printfn "Hello world\n"
Console.ReadKey(true)

  1.
  2. #light
  3. open System
  4. printfn "Hello world\n"
  5. Console.ReadKey(true)
  6.

If anyone else stumbles on some nice code snippets or tutos, feel free to share with us.
