mod_rewrite not supported

I haven't given it any thought but would it be possible to rewrite a url so that it gives you access to parts of the file sytem outside of the home folder?

This would definately be insecure, especially if the host is apache on Win.

As I said I havent tried it. so I am only guessing

Oh and PERL is beautiful, PHP is a pain! ;)

nice suggestion but i don't think it will work.

For the time being, i think i will leave the forum as it is. php.
my hosting company is seeing to the mod rewrite, maybe they will try to implement in another server .
Fairly new company but I Can't complain much about them coz their service has been really good so far

perhaps try mod rewrite later. thanks guys for the help so far! :lol:

mod_rewrite only changes URLs. It won't allow you to access things that Apache can't normally access anyway.

Thanks Axe. I thought so. just wasnt 100% sure.

With his ISP mentioning security probs. I thought perhaps it was possible. say with a "relative" url.
