Post 3+ Months Ago

I am a very very novice web guy.
I have a site http://www.floridafishandhunt.com . I want to add a header image at the top of my forums that I can easily change whenever I want.
I have tried to do this myself by modifying my overall_header file, but haven't had any luck. I have spent a lot of time trying to get it right and have given up.
Is there anyone that would be willing to edit my file real quick add the image field so I can just change the image easily. I have never had any training on any of this and really would be grateful if someone would just change it for me.
I feel like such a nerd for just straight out asking but, I am at the point of just needing it done.
Thanks,
Doug
And if you want to help email me at doug@floridafishandhunt.com

By the way here is the page with the forum. I want the image to sit up top above the forums.

Moving this to programming since it's more of a PHP issue than design issue, per se.

Welcome to OZZU. I expect you'll get some help here relatively quickly (although I'm not sure if anyone will completely volunteer to do it for you) What image are you refering to? The "forums" graphic with the mirrored fishermen in the top left corner of the forum? Or are you trying to add an additional header graphic like you have on your main page?

//edit -- never mind - I see what you said: "I want the image to sit up top above the forums"

This one is really very easy. In your overall_header.tpl file for the subSilver template just change this line:

Code: [ Select ]
<td align="center"><span class="maintitle">www.Floridafishandhunt.com</span><br /><span class="gen">FORUMS</span></td>

to something like this:

Code: [ Select ]
<td align="center"><img src="images/yournewimage.jpg" width="whatever" height="whatever"> </td>

Then just drop your new image in the images directory in the subSilver template directory.

Well this is the best I have ever done!!!!! I mean the best someone has ever done for me!!!!!

The image size is 600x91
I kind of wanted it to be the same length of the forums but I tried taking it to 800x91 then 700x91 then 650x91 and all of those blew the page size out and you had to scroll from left to right to see the whole page.
Is there a way to make it the same size as the forum table and keep it centered?
Thanks again!

Just doing a little rereading. If you keep the image under 600 pixels lengthwise...it should match up with the tables. 640 might work...but I've never tried it like you're trying to.

I have settled for this and decided I dont want it any bigger anyway.(for file size reasons)
I want to say thanks you for all your help and this site has proved to be a huge help. Sorry I am such a newbie at this.
See you later.
Doug
By the way what did you think of my website in general?
http://www.floridafishandhunt.com
It is my first real site that I have done. I have messed around a little but this is the first time I have tried to put a whole site together and publish it. Any constructive critisism for the next go around would help.

Personally, I like it... very much so. I'm not a big hunting fan (at least not with a gun - personally I prefer hunting with birds), but I'm not a stranger to wandering through Florida's wilds hunting for snakes, etc.

The header image is very nice n' clean - although maybe a tad tall for smaller resolutions (I'm in 1600x1200).

Personally, I might go with the size of the guys in the header on this URL..

http://www.floridafishandhunt.com/artic ... admoor.htm

But with the text size of the main page here..

http://www.floridafishandhunt.com/

Maybe the guys will look too small with that size text, I don't know, but I think making it a little shorter could be a good idea.

I love the design of the boxes on the main page though, very nice. I wonder if you could carry that box style on through to the navigation/search/links/who's online/google search boxes on the forum interface.

Allow me to recommend you post your site in our reviews board for opinions and feedback. Please take some time to follow the rules for requesting a review -- essentially give three good reviews to others sites. (sorta payment in advance for feedback on yours). There are many who participate there and I think you could probably get some good opinions. Personally I like your site. I'll try to give you a full review if you do post it there.

I am in Florida, yes... As far as fishing, I went out fishing last Saturday (8 days ago, not yesterday), for the first time in about 15 years, lol...

I've got a friend in Orlando who's big into fishing (currently figuring out how he can get a boat as a tax write-off, lol). We usually hook up every couple of months, although we speak online all the time.

As far as my own hunting in Florida goes, it's mostly just for snakes. Sometimes just for photo opportunities, sometimes for venom research - I have a friend here with a hots permit, and he works with a lot of venom labs across the US - and sometimes it's to find unique specimens to temporarily add to my collection.
