It would probably be also helpful to know what versions of php and mySQL you installed. It's my recollection reading that the newest version of PHP does some funky things with phpBB

ftp://www.dropzonecycling.com/phpbb2/

take a look

php version is 4.3.10

mySQL is 4.1.7

the trouble is that I can't open the install.php file for the phpbb2. I might be going about it all wrong. the way that I read the instructions is that I browse to the directory that contains the install.php file and open it and fill in the blanks.

You can't do it in ftp. You need to have the files in html_public. You can put them in the root of html_public or make it in a subdirectory (if you prefer). Personally I would recommend the root.

This is the end result you are trying to get to:

I'm not sure exactly what to tell you. My Win2K3 server has php installed and it works with IIS but they are both on the same drive, and I'm not 100% certain what the programmer did to set it up.

On 2003 server, your default website is going to be wwwroot in Inetpub so that's where all your webfiles need to be. You appear to be close because when I viewed this:
ftp://www.dropzonecycling.com/phpbb2/in ... nstall.php

I saw this:
http://www.boastingrights.com/ozzu/skater.jpg

Basically that's telling me that your server is not processing the php.

When I view
http://www.dropzonecycling.com/phpbb2/i ... nstall.php

I get a page not found. That tells me that your phpBB files are not in your wwwroot directory. Unfortunately, I have no idea how to tell you to get IIS to work with php. Hopefully somebody else can..

Best of luck.

//Edit -- I might have found it. I'll post what I found shortly.

OK, first let me say, I'm a little confused about the FTP thing. It looks as if your default FTP site is your default web site. That is not normally the case. Normally in IIS your default website will be wwwroot, in which case it would be http://whatever, instead of ftp://whatever. But if you need it to be that way, then fine. My instructions assume that wwwroot is the default website and is where your phpBB files should be. Adjust accordingly.

Use this image for reference (I blacked out the server name and IP for security as they are not important) :
http://www.boastingrights.com/ozzu/phpconfig.jpg

In Inetpub right click the default website and select properties. This brings up the default website properties box. Click the home directory tab and click Configuration which brings up the application configuration box. You'll see in my graphic the php file extension highlighted. If you don't have that you'll need to add it and set the path to your php.exe with Verbs = All

That should be what you need to do to get php working. Please don't ask me how to get mySql to work with it. I haven't the foggiest clue on that one.

That's irrelevent (frontpage extensions, that is). So it appears your 2003 server is your C Drive. I'll need to take a look on the server tomorrow and get back with you unless someone beats me to it. Sorry, but it's way past bedtime.

I think that I found the problem. I can NOT split up my web from my programs. this sucks. I do NOT trust windows to not crash. tried that and it crashed.
