I have my site working and all with thefreeserver (they suck but they offer preinstalled phpnuke. i am poor so i cannot get a hosted real site that is better) I am wondering how i change the main menu on the side.

http://www.collegewars.thefreeserver.com/phpnuke/ (site may be down)

is there a way i can edit that?

Probably through "Blocks" in the administration settings... That's how it is in PostNuke, I would assume it's the same in PHP-Nuke.

If thefreeserver will provide you access to the files, you can also modify the main menu look/feel by editing the code manually under PHPNUKE_ROOT/blocks/block-Modules.php

Utilizing the block admin is the certainly the easiest way to add/delete modules. If you want to get fancy, (aside from themes), you can check out some other Nuke sites and steal (er.. I mean stimulate creativity) some ideas.

A couple of sites to check out that put a neat spin on PHPNuke:
http://www.albini.net
http://www.slightlychilled.com
and something more traditional: http://www.dezina.co.uk
