So if I understand correctly the script is written in ASP right? Also is it working right now? its just not e-mailing the results? Do you have an example so we can see?

Ahhh I see. Okay so if you are using javascript that means it isn't your machine that is doing the e-mailing, it means you are depending the actual person to e-mail the results to you... as the javascript should simply invoke their e-mail client program to open up maybe setup the e-mail which they just have to hit send on. Do you have an example of the page with this javascript so we can try to duplicate your problem?

Well when I try to vote using your script I do not get any errors. It simply warns me that it is going to send an e-mail and must open my client program and asks me to confirm that I want to do that. Are you getting actual errors?

No I just never saw you post that before, anway my browsers does not crash. It is most likely not the scripts fault if your browser is crashing. I would suggest going to windows update and making sure you have all the latest updates. What version are you using for IE (Internet Explorer)?

Well if you use javaScript what is happening is the script is actually running client side. Which means the script is actually running on your computer. What you might do is actually use something to make the script run server side. Like using a poll script written in PERL, ASP, PHP, etc. That way the entire poll is ran on the server instead of using the clients computer to compute stuff. Would be less prone to problems, especially since there are people out there who have javascript actually disabled in their browsers, or their browser just doesn't support it.

well it is running but not effectively sometimes wen ppl do it it comes up with a blank email, sometimes (once) its come up with the actual option they chose and i think most of the time it doesnt get thru to my inbox at all cant u use the hotmail smtp address to send emails? is that why it is?

It just totally depends how they have mail setup. For example if someone uses AOL and they do no use the AOL browser, meaning, the open their own external browser like IE, I have a feeling your script would be totally incompatible with that for many users. All your script does is open up their default e-mail program. Now whether or not they actually have this e-mail program configured is what will determine if your script will actually work for them. See your script is depending on them having their default mail program setup, which means if they use any browser mail interface (like hotmail), it will most likely not work. That is why the best solution is to use a PERL script (or something in another language installed on your server) which access sendmail on your server so it would require nothing from any of your users, since you aren't depending on what they have or how they have stuff setup.

It just means your server does not allow the post method then. I am not sure what yahoo allows. I am guessing Yahoo has pre-built scripts that you are only allowed to use, and nothing else, but I could be wrong. I cannot simply answer your question on how to make a .cgi file. Check out this link though, its a starting point:

http://www.bigwebmaster.com/tutorial.html

There are lots of beginner lessons there on how to make a cgi script using PERL.
