Need suggestions for a Laptop

Okey guys im looking for a laptop and i need your advice and suggestions on which laptop to get..

My range is something around 700-850 around that.. Heres what i need in my laptop

1. Must look cool and shiny.. lol
2. Something around 14-15 inch screen, Wouldnt mind a larger screen but 14 is the minimum
3. I dont do alot of gaming but i play Fifa and PES and Tomb Raider and a few other games so it should be able to play games smoothly.
4. Decent battery time
5. And obviously, The other stuff which goes without saying like WiFi, DvdRw, decent web cam etc

Im a little confused on which operating system i should go for. Vista or xp? I personally prefer XP because its fast and runs without alot of problems, Vista although looks cool but it ran really slow on my desktop PC when i installed it so i got rid of it and uninstalled it and went back to XP. So im confused on which windows to go for. Also not quite sure which brand to go for.

Ive looked at a few laptops and im just in love with this Dell Laptop Studio 1537.. It looks cool, Its got a big screen and great features and fits my budget too. Looks like a good buy. So guys what do you suggest

Topic Replies: 1

e1505 cont.... batt works now, screen flickers, goes grey

the battery finally works.

but now I have a new issue. the screen will flick off for a split second.
after it does this a few times then it will go completely #808080 (gray:D) after 30 minutes or so. it does it at random too.

it only does it on battery power

when I close the lid and let it sit for 5 seconds it turns back on just fine when I re-open it.

the very bottom center on the monitor frame gets kind of toasty

I opened everything up and made sure that the screen wire loom wasnt damaged looking and that it was plugged in to the mother board all the way.
the ground screw on the end of the loom is snug too.
no sign of damage dirt dust or other unholy acts of nature on the plug or connection.

I tested the kill switch for the monitor and it seemed ok...
(if I just unplug the monitor kill switch from the MB will it ignore it? its just an open or closed circuit right? )

its a fresh install. could it be the graphics driver?
It does it while Im working on it so it shouldnt be a screen saver setting.

Topic Replies: 2

PC won't boot, nVidia 680i giving solid beep

I woke up this morning to find my PC completely frozen at the re-login screen. I thought nothing of it, forced it to shut down and went to work.

When I got home this evening, I turned it on but its not booting. The fans spin for about 10 seconds, then I get a single blank cursor in the upper left of the screen and Im getting a solid tone from the tower. Im not sure if the tone is from the motherboard or the video card.

Im already researching this and am going to check my hardware momentarily; Im just posting this in case someone happens to have encountered this problem before and/or has a solution.

Specs:
nVidia 680i mobo
EVGA 8800GTS video card
2GB OCZ PC-800 DDR2 RAM
Core2Duo 2.6Ghz overclocked to 3.5Ghz

Thanks in advance for any help or insight.

Topic Replies: 5

Hello
I have gone through these recovery steps to rebuild my boot file for XP professional ...

"Reboot the computer with the CD and press any key when prompted to press any key to boot from the CD.
Once in the Microsoft Setup menu press R to open the recovery console.
Select the operating system you wish to use; if you only have Windows XP on the computer you will only have one prompt.
Once prompted for the password enter the Admin password and press enter.
Once at the command prompt type bootcfg /rebuild to start the rebuild process. "

Once I enter the rebuild command I receive an error that says

"Failed to successfully scan disks for Windows installations.
This error may be cause by a corrupt file system, which would prevent bootcfg from successfully scanning.Use chkdsk to detect disk errors"

Well, chkdsk did not find any errors on the drive. Does anyone know if theres any hope of recovery for me??

Topic Replies: 3

Raid Failed, now what?

Im not sure if this is a hardware or software issue but it started as a hardware so Ill post here.

I have a Server Running a Raid 5 with 4 disks. One of the disks failed and has been replaced.

When first booting, you have the option to enter the Bios and then the option to enter the RAID Bios (i think thats what it is). It says that the RAID is bootable and shows that it needs to Rebuild (its supposed to do this after fully booting.)

After this screen disappears it usually goes the the "Windows 2003" screen wile it loads the OS. This isnt happening now. It just goes to a Black Screen. The monitor light stays green like it is receiving a signal.

Ive tried 3 differant monitors including LCD and CRT. Ive tried hitting F8 to get to safe mode.

Before i start to tear this thing apart, do any of you have any ideas?

Topic Replies: 9
