SATA Issues

Been having some quirks with my PC lately. Every now and then it will randomly die. It wont see one of the 2 SATA drives, usually the one with the OS on it. Ill *peach* around with it and eventually get it going (plugging into other SATA Ports usually does it).

Initially I thought it was my hard drive, until I noticed it wasnt consistent which one "failed." Tried putting on AHCI and installing the OS with that set, didnt make a difference. Ive tried Linux, WinXP and Win7 and keep getting the same issue. I even replaced my SATA cables too.

Right now Im thinking it must be the mobo. Im going to try flashing it tonight as a last ditch effort and will probably buy a new board. Not sure what to get though, Ive always been an Asus fan but the last 3 Ive had have failed on me. I am losing confidence in them. Any recommendations? It was running an M3N78-VM, which was cheap (less than $100) and had onboard video. Since then Ive picked up a separate video card so onboard isnt essential this time. Its going to be running a Quad Core Phenom @ 9950. So AM2+ socket, supporting PC2-6400 DDR2-800 RAM. Im so out of the loop when it comes to hardware these days, but Im currently thinking a GIGABYTE GA-MA790FX-DS5 would do the trick. Any input?

Topic Replies: 1

Acronis have just released add-on for Home True Image named Plus Pack which includes enterprise features - well, yes, it costs money, but as for me - the universal restore worth it! What is in Plus Pack:

-Restore to Dissimilar Hardware - allows to restore your data regardless of hardware
-Dynamic Disk Support - backup ad restore dynamic volumes
-WinPE Support - integrates latest MS drivers, apps & plugins on your bootable media

I am not authorized to post external links ))) but think it is easily googlable

Topic Replies: 0

Help please. My IBM Thinkpad won't boot up,even in safe mode

Hi,
I have an older IBM thinkpad laptop with windows xp.
I was working fine for months until last night when it randomly flashed the BSoD and restarted. Ever since it wont load at all, it gives me an option of using either: safe mode. safe mode w/networking, safe mode w/command prompt, last one that worked, and normal.
I have tried all of these and none will boot up my laptop. I also turned it off all night afterwards. Nothing has worked and plese note the fact that i cannot start it up enough to even see my desktop.
Thank you,
bb

Topic Replies: 5

PC TO HDTV

HI there, Recently I set my second display to my HDTV, so that I can work and watch movies at the same time. The only problem is that the TV and my primary monitor are in different places. When I set the movies on the TV, the only sound output is from my computer speaker. So I want to know is there a way where I can switch - the sound ouput to the TV ( or additional speakers) whenever I display the video to the TV ?

thanks for the advice

Topic Replies: 3
