Just a couple pointers: 1. There seems to be some trouble (as mentioned with others) stemming from your code. w3c validates with 30 errors --- , and firefox shifts all of your main body content below your ads. Might be an incorr...

I see I need to improve the focus of the items on the page. The surfboard graphics are work previews.

Updated nav with color links. Working on contact form.

Post Posted: December 26th, 2008, 5:02 pm

@ rantized, about a day to make @ graphixboy. Thanks for the pointers about hierarchy. The work previews on the right side originally had subtitles under them and had lightbox as well, but I'm working on the backend and it's all being effected as a result. As for the nav, I'm trying to come up with ...

I had trouble conveying the purpose of that subject, people get it confused with the bottom potion "featured image". That's originally my work previews, or images in a couple different areas of my work.

Can anyone provide some constructive criticism besides atnotw? Lol!

I'm going to be putting up the other 3 pages today, so hopefully then I could spawn some suggestive advice. I know it's not a perfect site, there's bound to be flaws, just need someone who is good at picking them...

Can you be more specific? I appreciate that you like it, but I'm sure there's something you dislike or might do differently. Opinions are golden. :D

Post Posted: December 15th, 2008, 10:43 pm

Totally in agreement. This site may fulfill it's purpose, but thats a fundamental basic. I could imagine this being a smaller part of a larger site, but it seems a bit arbitrary. As for the design, the thing you have to focus on is the site's purpose and intended content. The first thing I noticed w...

Thanks atno, means alot coming from you. I have an older portfolio site that was done completely in flash, you can see that in my splash page. I was a completely convinced flash addict until a friend of mine crashed my party with some well-needed advice on the absence of SEO in flash objects, so I s...

Definitely need to work on the typos, they are everywhere. Nothing brings down a legitimate business more than typos. Professionalism is key, and you won't land any work if you don't apply quality assurance to the work you do.

Thanks. Minimalism helps alot with the inherent loading time, and I'm not sure if I understand your second sentence very well, no flash in the site...yet

There's alot of downfalls with ie6 and 5.5, but to be quite honest, any user using IE6 needs to be slapped. That browser is practically a decade old. It's time to upgrade.

Post Posted: December 13th, 2008, 11:29 am

excellent for testing version of ie 5.5 all the way to current (8).

I'm not sure if this is going to answer your question, but here's how I generally get around the regular button mouse-over method. First take your graphic (I'm assuming you can take your button and remove saturation to give the black and white effect). Convert the image to a movie-clip (not a button...

Working on a php / flash email form, and I have been successful so far. I am trying to get an arrow that is visible when a field has been filled, and not when its empty. For some reason, its doing exactly the opposite. Heres my code: [code]p = new Object(); p.onKeyUp = function()...

Try this one instead
Code: [ Select ]
on (release) { bgSound = new Sound(this); bgSound.attachSound("muza"); bgSound.start(0, 99); }
Assuming that the sound filename is 'muza', make sure you set it to "export this symbol" as 'muza'....

the white box in your list component is reserved for a scrollbar in the event that there is more data in the window than the height allows. There isn't a property that can remove this bar, but I think you can go into the component and take it out manually. I don't use components much, so don't hold ...

I want to set up a loading system, because each of the sections is externally loaded, hence the 'delay'. Solaris Designs Minisite Hey guys, Its been a really long time since I last posted here. I think design-wise and capability-wise, I have matured a great deal. Just a side note, about the right click disable. If this was requested as a feature of the site, or one of your personal additions. This would serve more as a nuisance than a protective measure. Try holding the right mouse button, clicking the dialog box that pops up, and then releasing afterwards. ...

Post Posted: January 20th, 2007, 8:10 pm

The side images are kind of out of place. IMO I would try a lighter color outside the side images, instead of a black on either side. It makes the image itself stand out way too much to be useful. I would just as soon take them out, mostly because they serve no purpose. I can't give you any critique...

the site itself is okay, but what sticks out the most is the obnoxious text in the banner. If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have much to say, that and the out of place logo. Surely you could have found a more simplistic or quality logo to suit your site, Other than that, I generally like your choi...

you could try externally loading your images. just take the movieclip you wish to load the image into, and make it the size of the image, make sure the movieclip registration point is the top left corner. then put this clip on the root where the clip is located: movieclipname.loadMovie("picturehere....

Post Posted: April 11th, 2005, 7:35 am

when you embed your swf into html, add this to your embed tag:

<embed src="moviename.swf" vmode=transparent></embed>

this changes the way your flash object is published to the page.

Post Posted: April 11th, 2005, 6:14 am

all depends on preference, from my viewpoint both schemes work pretty well. you could make an option to change the color via css tables on the site itself. Would make a pretty nifty option for the viewers.

Post Posted: April 11th, 2005, 6:13 am

make sure that when you publish your movie, you embed it into html so that it stays the same size. If you change the size of the swf, it changes the shape of the contained material. if that isnt the problem, you could try a different form of images, rather than using flash to create gfx, try making ...

Post Posted: February 9th, 2004, 8:13 pm

I prefer MX all the way, its easy to cope with, great layout (IMO) and I dont want to waste more time learning changes in as 1.0 to as 2.0 no matter how subtle, the changes are inevitable. unhuh

Post Posted: February 9th, 2004, 1:42 pm

your goto scripts make it really messy (guessing by the way your movie reacts), because if you rollover more than one, it snaps back to the frame that it goes to to show the content of that particular button. maybe raise ur frame rate, or shorten the length of the animations

Post Posted: February 9th, 2004, 1:39 pm

it might be because the preloader only loads whats actually on the stage/scene in the movie, and not what you have included in the library, or it could be an issue of placement, where it starts to load, varying what it actually loads / leaves out.

jax ur being pretty closed minded, if you think thats the best flash site you have ever seen, you arent realizing the true purpose of flash. yeah im with kalbal, you can at least become mentally aware of most of the tools and features flash offers in 2-3 weeks, Becoming proficient, take a bit more time, but still can be LEARNEDthey have at a quick pace, depending on your level of competence :)

Post Posted: November 17th, 2003, 8:55 am

Lost is basically all correct, but one thing u have to remember, is if you ever share your source files, if you have a uncommonly used font inside, it has to be a graphic, or (broken apart), otherwise it wont show it in its intended font. Then it will just revert to the next best font available. :sh...

Post Posted: October 31st, 2003, 8:05 am

maybe you can try a move script in which the slider (scroller) moves to the position you invoke under the button actions like for instance:
Code: [ Select ]
on (over) move.this(postion)
and you can make the bar start at a certain location, given if you want it to move on the x axis,...

Post Posted: October 31st, 2003, 4:51 am

i didnt mean it in a bad way :P im just saying, try making something original like you know, something noone else has seen before. I think its kool tho so, im basing this on friends input :)

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 8:26 pm

bigweb i dont wanna sound critical but the forum looks nice and everything but its too easy, my friends all say it looks ugly. Make something that NOONE can make, i thik it looks pretty cool tho.

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 3:16 pm

aint that the truth :P

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 3:10 pm

you never know :)

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 3:07 pm

hmm, i too used the flash tuts included, the only thing i HATE the most is the fact that the tuts dont start from scratch, they use sample movies. If they started from scratch they would be so much more helpful. And yeah, a/s is wayyy easier than j/s :)

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 3:04 pm

hehehe, to backup my theory on the excess frames, if your background movie color is white, this may be one of the reasons u see a flash. Unflux answered one of my own questions on how I would use transitions to load movie swfs, I see this as maybe being extremely difficult :) Hope we helped you man ;)

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 5:23 am

i too am confused. maybe your computer is too slow and is just making up for that by skipping a few frames? If you embed a sound into flash and you want to sync it with many other things, (that is, if you have the sound in stream mode) then flash will try to keep up to every frame. If it for some re...

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 5:17 am

yeah do what unflux says, if you dont know anything about flash, ur dead in the water when it comes to a/s. although, ive noticed that most people who knew javascript beforehand, often never had a problem learning a/s. maybe the 2 codes are similar, i dont see a difference :P
good luck ;)

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 5:14 am

maybe your loading your movie too early, check youjr timeline and excess keyframes to make sure you have stuck something in there. never seen flash mx "flash" before :)

Post Posted: October 30th, 2003, 5:00 am

If you want to avoid converting every individual keyframe (before and after) just convert your text before you make any new keyframes, this will save time and also keep your library nice and neat! :P
