Hi all. If this were a hardware problem, I would know what information you guys would need, but this is my first attempt to configure a webserver. Heck, I'm not even sure I have it configured properly. All I know is when I type http://localhost, I get sent to the directory my webfiles are in, which ...

The answer was: I abandoned tables and went to stylesheets :)

Post Posted: February 24th, 2004, 2:21 pm

xhtml promotes the use of stylesheets even more than its predecessors. Even though I didn't know that the valign was obsolete, it doesn't surprise me it was replaced with a stylesheet element.

Simply, it is to force style sheet immigration.

Thanks, I've resolved this issue. Could a mod please close this?

An excellent tip. Interesting though, in that I have mine checked to show, and it randomly does/doesn't at startup. I attribute a shredded registery :)

Hi, it's me again. I'm having problems lining up my two nav bars and my content area on a site template (It's heavily modified from an example site that allows this) I'm working on. I'm almost ready to export it to a php version, I just can't get the three tops to level up in Mozilla! http://www.the...

Out of the two, I would go with invision. The 2.0 release that is coming out looks very imressive.

However, nothing compares to vbb :)

Sorry to ask yet more () questions, especially when I know the answer will be so easy. I've got a three column layout using css (the css checks out as valid css2 according to w3's validator). Problem is, in internet explorer, it shoves the third column beneath the first one  Here is my c...

I'm trying to make this page xhtml 1.0 transitional. Basically, I'm running into a problem with my menu bars; they expand to the size of the text in them. I'm trying to control their width with a stylesheet, and set it to 130px, but I'm doing something wrong. Sorry for another lamo question  H...

Excellent :) Again, you have been very helpful!

Post Posted: February 23rd, 2004, 7:55 am

I use this heavily as I have a series of tables on my webpage. However, when I use the validator at, it tells me it isn't valid xhtml transitional. What is the replacement tag, or what should I use instead?

Thanks! That works great!

I'm getting an error on some very simple php code. I'm new to php, and would really appreciate help with this. Also, if what I'm doing is a common mistake or you see any, please, let me know! [code]<?PHP { echo("<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC \"-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional/...

Yes... strange that you design pages though, and don't know how to do this. Anyways, if you design your pages from a text editor, you will need simply an ftp client such as cuteftp, your server address, username, password, and possibly port number. If you use a program like dreamweaver or frontpage,...

The server that you will be hosted on is as follows- # AMD 2100 XP Athlon processer # 1 Gigabyte RAM # 99% uptime # RedHat Linux 8.0 # Fewer people on each server so services are better # Undamaged computer parts # Up to date Control panel Great to know the host is "undamaged." How is it evil to be able to look over a group of 40 images, click on one, and it pop up? And then you click on another one, and it pops up in the same window? How is that evil?

Soaked, perhaps if you posted in greater detail what your action plan is and specific areas you are having problems with, people would be able to help you. It is friendly here I've found, but the information you requested was broad enough to fill several volumes.

Yes, I have a piece of advice: Don't compute when you're drunk ;)

More seriously, if you have a damage plan with it I would take advantage of it. Best Buy's covers moisture, but this is more than moisture :(

I'm having some problems here involving directories. When I put an image on a page, that is say, in the same folder as the page, my server requires me to have the full extension from the root, ie http://www.theapostleofgod/anydir/anydir/anydir. In my understanding this is not typical; you should jus...

This site is very attractive and well laid out, which is good for you in your business. However, to be honest with you, I am on a blazing connection and it took a long, long time to load. This board is already an uber source of information, and from what I can tell, and uber friendly community (it reminds me of what sysopt used to be in regards to hardware). When this board hits 80k posts, then it will be a grossuberĀ³board. :D

But can't you still see the movie's source if you just use the browsers edit-view source and then search for .swf?

This is a nice milestone for the site. 20,000 posts isn't really a lot for even a small board (I consider this board mid-sized). No, the milestone is the quality of posts here. If you buy the hard drive, you will still have to format it.
