Hey folks- an update. Here's a couple things I did today: 1. Removed the RAM with the CPU still installed - got a beep every second that went away when I put the ram back in. 2. Removed the CPU (Read below) - got nothing. No display or beeps. 3. Removed the CPU and RAM - same lack of success, nothin...

I took out the battery to reset the CMOS and got nothing (no display). The computer just turns on and all the drives startup like ...

I then shake the computer around for a little, cycling thro...

One thing you could do is completely take the notebook apart. Check the solder points on the motherboard and if any are loose solder them back in. Just be careful not to solder points back together that aren't supposed to be together. Basically solder carefully.

I heard that if you leave it unplugged and with the battery taken out for about a week then you will get some more life out of it. I would take out the hdd see if it boots. Try running with minimal setup. The system itself, 1 ram stick, and the hard drive. Try that and report back. Also some specs w...

Alright. Well i've permanently found the problem. This requires that you disassemble the notebook solder a piece back on, and put it back together. The motherboard had a magnet-looking piece that got pulled off the mobo. Soldering this back on will solve the problem. When I get home from school I wi...

The possibility of overclocking a retail system is very slim. Plus the system it self is so old it would be cheaper to get a newer system. Along with the speed it would be a smarter decision to purchase a new system. On the overclocking side it would be a waste if it was even possible. Yet it is an ...

Is this smell/smoke coming directly from the mobo or the power supply? Post Posted: February 19th, 2005, 9:32 pm

If your running windows in the control panel (in classis mode) go to power options then to the advanced tab. You can change it in there. But this will only affect it when windows is loaded. This also relys on the actual switch itself. So the switch itself has to be working.

Post Posted: February 19th, 2005, 4:41 pm

If you can even turn it on then its your case. Take off your front panel and see if your connections are unplugged or clogged with dust. If not then you have to replace the panel with the power switch in the front. Unless someone else has a hack for it.

Oh well *plum*. Dude your lucky enough to have a 64bit processor. Thats a nice processor grim. Congrats.

Post Posted: February 11th, 2005, 2:21 pm

I mainly overclocked in the first place to bring the core mhz up 50 mhz so it matched my 9000. But since then since I got water cooling I have tried slowly increasing the speed.

Post Posted: February 10th, 2005, 4:35 pm

the card I have now was 32 dollars and I dont mind over clocking it at all. If I wanted to I could pull the radeon 9000 out of the closet pop the water block on and oc it. No prob with that.

do you think i could over clock that clock speed 20mhz to reach 400mhz clock. That ram is super fast for what i have. Mines only 200. That card looks nice. Plus its from newegg. New egg rocks! Thanks everyone.

Post Posted: February 8th, 2005, 2:15 pm

I have a Elements ATI Radeon 9200SE with a Kingwin AWC-1 water blocked hooked up. I over clock the card from 200 to 285 mhz and it runs smoothly. AA is what kills it though. I wish you could update pixel shader versions. And get some ram sinks on the thing so I can over clock the memory.

Is there only physcially only one drive in the system?
I've heard computers not boot because although the data cable was unplugged but there was still power that they can sometimes not boot up.
try taking the unused drive out physically and see what happens

Post Posted: December 24th, 2004, 3:16 pm

Something could have shifted with the cables. Make sure all connections on the computer are secure and free of dust. Also make sure no fans are clogged with dust. (Just for heats sake) Make sure everything in your bios is correct.

iPod's can absolutely be used as an external hard drive. You don't need to do anything special, I simply hooked it up through firewire and it registered itself in My Computer as a drive.
