Well this is a myth. All major search engines still rely heavily on link popularity. Google will never harm a site selling or buying on relevant sites. PR already lost its power, now even pr0 sites could rank higher in SERPs than a PR5 site. Your on-page factors also matter alot now plus links from relevant sites, you could get blog links too, they are hot these days.

Forget about link exchange, its wastage of time and money. Just buy permanent links from quality and relevant sites. Permanent links are cheap and give great value to your SERP.

Always go for proper relevant business sites, directories are ok but business sites are the way to go now.

Try to get backlinks from quality and relevant websites and give it a few weeks before your new site is fully indexed and crawled.
