The one benefit I see from this, which is a great one: Simplicity. Your email address is the same as your homepage url (with www, ofcourse). Thats great! I think for many people, knowing their url is the same as their email would appear less intimidating, and we might see people more willing to crea...

What I want to do : Have my friends upload a picture and a comment through a form and have it displayed instantly on a page on my website. I'd like all the pictures to go on the same page. If someone can get me the raw code, I can work on the formatting of how its displayed on my own. Also (Separat...

I'd be interested to see what you all do on the internet to make money. I know some of you design sites for jobs, some run their own sites and sell things, some make money off referalls.... I'd like to hear what you all do. And if you are comfortable with sharing - how much you make (yearly, hourly,...

My site uses frames, and I hear that causes problems for search engines.

If I made my index (first page loaded) a little welcome screen with no frames, would that allow the page to be found better?

Any tips/tricks appreciated!

I haven't done much research as far as pricing goes on website hosting, but with my small site I pay $8 a month (around 25 megs of space, light traffic). I've only compared with a few other sites, so I'm curious as to know if I'm getting a great deal or not?

Post Posted: December 11th, 2003, 9:26 pm

We should have a contest where there is a picture we all that with and see who can tweek it the best. We did this on a car forum with a car to see who could digitally make it look bad ass.

Anyone down?

Ooooooooh man! Thats so damn tempting to click, but what is it? I don't want to get bombarded with 1000 popups!

And even if you don't tell me what it is, i'll probably click it anyway.

Ok, think of the frames on my page like a 5x2 (5 wide, 2 down) The content of the site is in the middle top and bottom frames. The frames that are only 10 pixels wide are the ones just to the left and right of the content, I made the background image a fade. So there is absolutely nothing in the fra...

I'm just curious as to how much people actually design their page in code, rather than a program like macromedia dreamweaver. I used to whip out notepad to create everything, but now I use dreamweaver because it saves me a whole lot of time, I see no point in actually writing my own html files by ha...

Hey my man, damn good work! Notre Dame isn't easy to get into, you should be proud to be a part of that school. I really like what you've done so far! Keep it rollin.

Post Posted: December 5th, 2003, 4:08 pm

ATNO, I see what your saying and that makes sense. But I'm talking about frames that are only 10 pixels wide, so there is never a reason to scroll it.

Post Posted: December 5th, 2003, 12:10 pm

I want a hit counter (free, of course!) that doesn't actually show up on the page. I know theres a free one out there that tells you everything you could possibly want to know about the traffic on your site, but I forgot the name.

What do you all use?

Post Posted: December 5th, 2003, 12:02 pm

First off: I bet its easy since everyone does it, how can I edit my scroll bar to match the theme of my page? I don't like the default at all! Second: With frames, how do I keep a frame from deciding on its own to put its own scroll bars in? If I'm off by just one pixel It automatically creates the ...

So it sounds like frames are old news. It also seems like they cause webmasters to become homicidal maniacs when reviewing pages. Oh, and before I get to my question, why do you hate them? Is it the style you hate or the html hooba-joob load times and such? Now, what do I do instead of frames...

Hey iBold, I disagree with what your saying. You cannot compare a car (physical item) with digital media. There is no possible way for someone to steal your car by copying it and selling the copy for $5. But with content online, there could be thousands of copies and thousands of people claiming own...

Very nice, but you made that whole thing in photoshop? I've never made something like that from scratch in photoshop, I usually start with a 3d art program to get an image like that.

How did you do that?

Post Posted: December 3rd, 2003, 11:21 am

I'm tired of college already, I don't want to go to class ever again!

Did any of you start your own companies or drop out and do something else in order to get out of this horrible system? Whats everyones current status? I'm a sophomore in mechanical engineering at Purdue. Its obnoxious!

Post Posted: December 3rd, 2003, 11:18 am

These copyright laws are very tricky and detailed, but I would say that if someone uploads an image and claims it to be theirs and allow you to use it, then go for it. Whether it is their image or not, give THEM credit for it on your page with maybe a link to the page you were able to get the pictur...

Good show, damn good show.

Post Posted: December 2nd, 2003, 10:10 pm

when you say some of the words overwrite words, can you tell me which page that was on? I'm not seeing that anywhere.

And why are frames bad? Are they commonly know as evil now??

Ok, this is my personal homepage. I made it just to have fun making it and share all the pictures I had on my computer with my buddies. Overall I like it, but my main concern is your index buttons on the left. I find that huge gap between each button to seem like way too much, it doesn't make me feel "toolbar", its more like a paragraph. It looks like you are trying to make your index match the length of the rest of the page, which ...

I went to your site to simply review it and now I think I want to buy one of those!

But overall the site looks very professional, I don't have any negative comments!

Post Posted: November 24th, 2003, 3:53 pm

My honest opinion is just "ehhh". It looks likes you have skills but you aren't implementing them like you should. For starters, I don't like how the main page is set up. It reminds me too much of one of those "Win big now for free" kind of sites, because you have the vote for me links. I agree with...

I've got a solid grasp on HTML, and now I feel that I need to expand out and learn more. Where do I go from here? What language should be my next step? I want to learn how to make pages more interactive and indepth.

Can you give me a quick run through of whats out there?

Post Posted: November 24th, 2003, 9:14 am

To edit pictures, I've only used adobe photoshop.

I have Fireworks MX on my machine, but I never use it. How powerful is it, and does it even compare with photoshop?

What else do you guys use to tweak pictures?

Post Posted: November 23rd, 2003, 8:33 pm

I have the form set up, I have all the textfields and radio buttons I need, and now I want to make the submit button send all that info to my email address.

I'm using Macromedia Dreamweaver BTW, if it makes any difference.
