Alright, here's my question/concern: My server just hit the two year old mark, and I have a growing concern that a hardware component may fail. I'm especially concerned about the power source, as it is actually 6 years old! (I'm an idiot, I know) The problem is, my colocation facility is nearly 2,00...

Are you trying to move into the hosting market? If so, here's my recommendation. It worked for me. (Read the whole thing before you scoff at it) 1) Purchase a reseller plan Your home computer will not be able to offer the type of service required by commercial purchasers. But lately, I've been thinking about selling everything. It all works great and requires very little maintenance, but honestly, I don't h...

Hmm, I may have figured out my own problem: I have linux set up with a 100 MB boot partition. All boot records are found on that partition and it's at the first cylinder of the drive. I don't think Windows likes that very much. I'm going to reformat the whole thing tonight. Hopefully it will boot, o...

I'm a Fedora Fan I started with Red Hat 7, and I've like Fedora since. It's has a really fast release cycle too (about ever 6 months) Most of the newer linux distros are resource hogs, and you'll have a hard time running any of them on your Pentium II. (You wouldn't be able to run a Windows NT based...

The kernel logs are files created by the Kernel which tell which, if any, errors occured. It also logs standard warnings and other access things. I love wikipedia. It has a lot of thought provoking articles. (I'm particularly facinated by quantum processes.)

Ah yes, I shaved my head for the first time this summer. It's so much nicer. (at least in the summer)

My roommates still call me a hippie even though I've got a military buzz-cut now!

::Groan:: I better not comment on that article. I'd love to but I don't want to offend anyone. Here's what I've always thought about the beginning of the universe: Given: - The universe started as a small speck of matter and antimatter. - The universe is expanding - Expanding stars, etc, often becom...

Yes, I'm sure it's referring to a block address on your hard drive. But, that doesn't mean it's necessarily the HD's fault. Linux always echos it's procedures during startup. That may simply be the last part of the startup performed before the hang. Things to check ----------------------- Media (Ins...
