Thanks for the reviews. As for the footer at the bottom of the page, for some reason or another it didn't want to go there because of the layers or whatever, so I just moved it onto the sidebar.

Post Posted: November 20th, 2004, 10:54 am

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try and sort those.

Post Posted: November 20th, 2004, 8:27 am

I've completed the total redesign for my web design site. I've revamped the site so now its got a smaller page size, looks cleaner, and looks more professional. It is now XHTML 1.0 Transitional compatible, CSS 2 compatible and 508 accessibility compatible. To the best of my knowledge it is pretty mu...

Yeah, I'm currently trying to sort that out. Thanks

Post Posted: October 4th, 2004, 11:36 pm

Well, thanks guys. I had the pixel sizes in for dev, and you're right that they should be changed to percentages, so I'll get doing that now.

Thanks for the opinions

I've set myself up a blog at the url http://www.pointless-existence.com Tell me what you think of it so far, I have sorted it out pretty much, except for a few things on the comment pages, which still need doing. Also, the top buttons aren't yet active, due to me needing to finalise the template bef...

Also to add, I'm aware that it doesn't show up as XHTML compatible which is a shame, but it is because of the scripts that I have to use on the site.

Changes made ;)

Post Posted: May 8th, 2004, 1:40 am

Yeah, I will change them to plain text. The reason they are images is because when I had them as plain text tables they sort of mucked up.

Post Posted: May 8th, 2004, 1:22 am

It is a lot more accessible to those with disabilities than it was before. Aside from those problems it is pretty much totally fine, and I will being doing a div based layout ASAP. The reason that I haven't allowed changing font-sizes is because it screws up the entire site look. Have a look in Mozi...

By the way, I noticed on the about page that organization is spelled with a 's' instead of a 'z'. But then again, what do I know, maybe you guys spell it like that in the UK? Yup, we spell it right 8) Obviously the site has some merit if is going to be featured in a magazine so, I guess my question...

Post Posted: May 4th, 2004, 10:47 am

Thanks 8)

Post Posted: May 3rd, 2004, 2:40 am

Why is that?

Post Posted: May 2nd, 2004, 12:41 pm

See above, it's a British magazine, so you probably haven't heard of it if you are in the US.

Post Posted: May 2nd, 2004, 12:39 pm

Well nothing is sorted, still finalising stuff, but it should be featured in Internet Works.

Yeah, I just skinned the forums and coded the site. I am not the supreme graphic genius. File Attachment - http://www.phpbbhacks.com/viewhack.php?id=251 It takes quite a bit of time, but to be honest it isn't that hard. The hardest mod imo is the profile cp mod on a heavily modded forum, when you ha...

Just wondering what you guys think of http://www.blueuniverse.co.uk I completed a complete redesign in about March 2004, and since then it has been steadily growing. It is going to be featuring in a magazine next month. Also, if possible, tell me what you think of the forum/site integration. Thanks,...

Various othere areas will be covered throughout the rest of the series. ;)

I didn't want to go into too much depth, as that would be cutting out the target audience in that area. I have numerous article series planned, as well, for the future.

Thanks for the comments ;)

Post Posted: March 28th, 2004, 10:46 am

Don't know if you are interested but I have written an article on choosing a free web host as part of my how to make a free website series.

Anyway here it is

Choosing your free webhost

Tell me if you like it, and if you feel necassary, where I could improve.

Post Posted: March 15th, 2004, 11:39 am

Yeah, the site goes in to quite a lot of depth the further you go into it and I needed to include all the pages that were in the site.

Post Posted: March 14th, 2004, 1:21 am

lol, no problem

OK the new site is now up. I'll post the new text here and I'll change the initial message. After a long time working on the site I have finally finished my Blue Web Design site, the second version. Post Posted: January 25th, 2004, 11:34 am

Not sure why that is, I did make sure especially that I set it to a low volume. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Post Posted: January 25th, 2004, 10:58 am

You sure it isn't your volume. I have set the volume to 40% and I need to turn my volume up to be able to hear it.

Post Posted: January 25th, 2004, 7:13 am

Thanks

I will try and make the buttons in css as soon as I get some time.

Post Posted: January 25th, 2004, 6:42 am

Yeah I just added it and it needs more work. It is better than what I had there before and hopefully I will make some other changes to it. Another reason for it is to make the site a portfolio of my work and to show I can do flash.

Post Posted: January 13th, 2004, 9:24 am

The forums do have a news preposter as the Blue Universe site is a news website. It will have members but my site visitors are not able to access it yet.

Post Posted: January 12th, 2004, 10:12 am

OK I will try and change that. I haven't finished the forum skin as you might have guessed. I have just got the base there and I have completed some mods. The actual forum is aiming for a completion date of 1st Feb 2004

Post Posted: January 4th, 2004, 6:30 am

My first suggestion would be to remove the counter on the first page unless you don't have any stats package. The second would be to use css to do rollovers on the text link. They are very boring when you hover over them. (as in they don't do anything). Just specify a hover value in the css. Perhaps...

Your site design is a template I have seen on my travels, slightly modified but pretty much still in it's original form. Post Posted: January 4th, 2004, 6:16 am

It takes rather a long time to load and the text, colours and layout let it down really.

Post Posted: January 4th, 2004, 6:14 am

Well I am not seeing much content at all and the layout is only a free template. Try centering the whole thing and writing more content.

Post Posted: December 11th, 2003, 12:33 pm

Number of links

Post Posted: December 11th, 2003, 10:40 am

Many sites that relied greatly on forum sig links have had their PR drop a value

Post Posted: December 11th, 2003, 10:17 am

I am almost certain that Google can't rank like that. It won't rank on feedback and it won't rank based on hits for a load of reasons. Something like that just is too powerful and will be subject to spam.

Post Posted: December 11th, 2003, 9:11 am

The first bit is different. Sure it can accept a few but generally it is not liked. It makes sense. Higher quality sites will have more links into them than out as people have linked to them due to the good content.

Post Posted: December 10th, 2003, 1:27 pm

And about content is king, that is totally true. Content gets you higher ranking and the better the content the more people will want to link to you.

Post Posted: December 10th, 2003, 1:26 pm

I'm not saying it is true, I am just saying it could be possible. You have to remember quality links come without an exchange e.g. I link somewhere to provide useful info. Those are the kind of links Google likes. If you want to read a topic discussing the florida update, seo filters etc. go here ht...

Post Posted: December 10th, 2003, 9:39 am

The main seo filter applied was one that removed sites if they had a lot of links pointing to the same page with the same anchor text. This is due to it not being quality links which are usually directed to certain threads. It makes it look as if link exchanges have taken place and Google doesn't li...

Post Posted: December 9th, 2003, 2:01 pm

Seo Filter - basically sites are penalised for using SEO techniques or if they have loads of links all with the same anchor text

Post Posted: December 9th, 2003, 1:58 pm

Especially from me. I am a speculator.

Post Posted: December 9th, 2003, 10:09 am

Many people have the idea that an SEO filter has been applied and this cannot be good. There has been evidence against this but I have seen a lot of sites that have been penalised for using SEO techniques.

Post Posted: December 9th, 2003, 10:06 am

Well it is based on a lot of things. PR and backlinks are significant and especially site content. Overall though there are well over 100 factors.

Post Posted: December 8th, 2003, 2:11 pm

PR updated on Saturday. I believe Google is moving towards more of a constant update now as it is doing with search results. If it gets there then this will benefit me greatly. As for backlinks most established sites have lost links, mine gained due to it being brand new. The main reason for the los...

just jkn. Check out http://www.awstats.org though

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 2:29 pm

Yeah but if you have used AWStats then you can't argue because you would realise that it is the best but lets not get into this really. People can argue but they won't win.

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 1:11 pm

Nice work Jon. The site looks good acronym did a good job on it. I hope you really get somewhere with it. 8)

Wouldn't use either of them now though. AWStats is the best and nobody can argue.

Don't even think that they know

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 1:04 pm

Well I really like it. You have heard most of my feedback over at IMR. A lovely design and a great overall motive. As for why your site has those PRs check link:http://webmastergoods.com and you will see why. You have 2 pr 6 links and that is only in the top 3. Well Done with the site and good luck ...

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:59 pm

StatCounter is pretty much the same as that

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:41 pm

If you are in DMOZ then you can view the "toolbar PageRank" in the Google Directory. Just to stress though that this isn't the actual pagerank. The actual pagerank is wafting around the dataservers and only Google can see it.

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:37 pm

And if you can find some way to get the raw access logs you can set it up to work at home on your PC using perl and apache server.

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:37 pm

http://www.statcounter.com is good, I use them before I was hosted. AWStats is much better now I have it though.

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:30 pm

Cheers for that. Found that very useful

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:27 pm

http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank.html

This would also help. I know this guy quite well and he is big in SEO circles. A lot to read though.

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:27 pm

http://www.webworkshop.net/pagerank_calculator.php3

This is a pagerank calculator

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 12:09 pm

It does reduce the validity of them though. People prefer to swap with links pages that include less pages

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 10:34 am

I do look for directories a lot when I get the time. As for my links page I don't mind having more as I have sorted it out. See the new page http://www.blueuniverse.co.uk/links.htm but if you have over 30 links on one page then you start to look like a link farm and google can penalise you for this.

Post Posted: December 7th, 2003, 1:21 am

The main reason is the I don't want a crowded links page. I am however going to change a lot of text on that page. If you do have a lot of links on it though it reduces the significance and the PR other sites gain is less.

Post Posted: December 6th, 2003, 1:53 pm

I currently have a pr of 5 on my main site Blue Universe (link in sig) but I am hoping to build this up to something like a PR of 7. I need links but these are very hard to get. How would you recommend going about getting them.

Post Posted: December 6th, 2003, 1:51 pm

My name is Ed I am fourteen and I only learned html 6 months ago. I own all the sites in my sig and I have owned them for about a month now. I am hoping I will be able to make those sites into high pr sites of something around 7. Currently Blue Universe is at 5
