Lots of people are just lurkers. Some of them probably visit frequently enough that they felt the need to regisiter but are too shy to accually post.

Right now I'm hosted at ICDsoft which is okay. Their server speeds are kinda slow sometimes but their support is really fast and helpful.

I'm switching to V7 inc, http://www.v7inc.com/ , right now.

AFAIK The major search engines, except for AllTheWeb(FAST), don't follow flash at all.

Politely email them and ask for a link exchange. For the most part the message will be viewed as spam, but eventually you should be able to get someone to trade links with you.

Also asking for a link without giving anything in return might result in no response or a less than polite one.

I doubt they'll die or go bankrupt, for a long time. Look at Altavisita they lost their main user base BUT are still alive, even though they're owned by Yahoo, thru Overture.

Umm... it took years and large staffs to make Google, Inktomi, and FAST as good as they are today. If you plan on coding a good search engine you had better have A LOT of paitentence, money, and time on your hands. Also #3 is out of place that question makes it sound like you're trying to make a web...

How similar are the sites? If their content focuses on a different area than yours than go for it. Links to each other would benifit your visitors.

If the sites have almost identical content, don't bother. Like RyTRiX said you might end up loosing visitors.

If you plan on adding on a bunch of moduals like polls and stuff to your site php includes would be the best option. Also you'd need to learn PHP. If you're not planning on learning PHP then SSI, server side includes, are a good option as well. Just rename all your HTML files to .shtml and add <!...

If you have XP and don't have enough RAM you can always have XP use part of the HD in place of real RAM. You can change it by going to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Performance Settings > Advanced.
